The little book documents a public walk along the ‘Great North Road’ between Stevenage and Hitchin, interwoven with James Greenwood’s accounts of the same route (from his On Tramp, 1883) and archival material from Senate House Library’s Special Collections. It was produced as part of the Institute of Historical Research’s ‘Stray Voices’ project, which explored the historical construction of ‘vagrancy’ through British law and culture.
Images show the final pamphlet, a digital translation for the School of Advance Studies website, and stills from Harriet Jones' film of the walk, Without Visible Means.
