Between Friends presents a personalised account of 50 years of feminist publishing processes and their communities. Rejecting a linear chronology, it highlights the continued relevance of these practices and their importance in building feminist futures.
This work was informed by archival research at the Women's Library and my own experiences of contemporary self-publishing communities. The comic takes the form of a long hand-bound concertina, which I printed in 2-4 colours on a risograph duplicator.

In 2022 I participated in the illustration symposium 'Colouring In: The Past', organised by Stephanie Black and Luise Vormitag. As part of a panel titled 'Working with Archives', I spoke about the process of creating Between Friends: my methods and intentions. Luise and Stepahnie have crafted a fantastic publication that brings together (and further contextualises) the conference’s discussions, and which is available as a PDF from colouring-in.com.
Serena Katt's chapter summarises our panel's presentations & discussions, and Luise & Stephanie's introduction refers to Between Friends as part of broader “illustrative methods for articulating non-linear temporal constellations”.
