Commissioned by MayDay Rooms as part of their new pamphlet series.
The images respond to their archives of the activist group Big Flame, particularly their internal documents that offer advice to members on how to produce printed matter for organising.
Their 1980 publication Agit Prop Notes demonstrates how processes of print and duplication have an important political dimension, activated through collective labour and through physical materials & processes.
Big Flame’s publications resonate with contemporary struggles and methods of producing DIY publications – particularly popular stencil duplication methods like Risograph and silkscreen. They also offer insight on productive approaches for today’s organisers, with practical suggestions on how to produce publications that keep differences of opinion and experience at the forefront.
